Fill in the blank

Posted on Sunday 2 July 2006

The American President is one of my favorite films. I love this part of the penultimate speech. But if you fill in the blank with just about any Republican, the speech still rings true.

We have serious problems to solve, and we need serious men to solve them. And whatever your particular problem is, friend, I promise you, ________________ is not the least bit interested in solving it. He is interested in two things and two things only: Making you afraid of it and telling you who’s to blame for it. That, ladies and gentlemen, is how you win elections. You gather a group of middle-aged, middle-class, middle- income voters who remember with longing an easier time, and you talk to them about family and American values and personal character.

Consider the crap the Republican controlled houses of Congress have been debating for the last few weeks.  Flag burning, gay marriage, etc., as opposed to health care reform, Iraq, etc.  Health care costs are making it hard for American businesses to compete.  Small business owners have piggybacked on the health care plans of large companies for a long time but the large companies can no longer afford it.
See what I mean?
