One order of guts, to go

Posted on Saturday 6 January 2007

Here is the situation in Iraq: President Bush has started a war that is in the process of adding about a trillion dollars to our national debt.  This comes at a time when Congress can’t decide on a plan that would cost $1.4 billion to add the border patrol people who could really secure our porous borders.  That sum of money gets spent every couple of days in the Iraq effort.

We have meddled in an ages old sectarian feud which we did not understand and have destabilized a part of the world that will impact all societies.

3000 of our soldiers have been killed and many times that have been wounded and maimed with life altering injuries.  These people will need our support for the rest of their lives.

Somewhere over 500,000 Iraqis have been killed because of the sectarian violence we have allowed to flourish.

Bush wants to continue business as usual and pass this off to his successor.  He has said that he listens to commanders on the ground, but when they disagreed with his proposals, they were relieved.

This is about Bush’s ego and how he doesn’t want to face up to the fact that he has put a blight on our society that will take generations to remove.

Too many people have died.  There has been too much destruction.

I’m hoping that at least some of the people in the executive branch have the guts to stand up to the Bush-Cheney cabal.
