I have been pretty happy with Gmail. I use it to read my primary mail account and keep another account there for lower priority things.
One of the things I don’t like about it is that dots are removed from the name space. johndoe@gmail.com is the same thing as john.doe@gmail.com. I have seen phishing emails where the phisher is trying to exploit this feature.
Gmail has a spam filter that works pretty well, but for some reason, this one got through.
