Some short scripts I have written

I wrote this one as an exercise in telling a story without dialog. It is set in Seattle’s Pike Place Market, and features an encounter between a priest and a woman who has just been jilted. Sort of.

The Dance

I wrote this short as an exercise in a short film that would require one set and two actors. I wanted to work with a cinematographer who wanted to create three separate looks for the same space. I called it “The Dance” because it is about this devil’s dance we do as we try to figure out who and what we are and and how to deal with life. The protagonist is ambivalent about breaking up and that is played out in flashbacks and fantasies. He finally comes to grips with his own actions.

Dakota Smith

I wrote this short film as a contest entry for Klasky Csupo. It didn’t win. I liked the characters, and Dakota Smith’s struggle against a tag team of terrible twins in school. The writing goal was for a pilot, so this script tries to set the main conflict that Dakota Smith faces, along with introducing family and others. I wrote it when my daughter was very fascinated with dinosaurs. It seemed reasonable that a girl would have as imaginary playmates the ghosts of two dinosaurs dead for over 65 million years. I was constrained to 12 pages. I would have liked to add a couple more.

Disorder

I wrote this short as an exercise for another director. The dialog is purposefully turgid and on point. My visual contribution was the concept of going into a video monitor at one physical location and coming out another.
